“Today I am working on the school bus. The tire rod end jumped out of place and this is not good. If we do not fix it on time the students will not be able to go to school on time and it will be another problem there.”

Firestone Liberia Employment Practices

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

Firestone Natural Rubber is an equal opportunity employer with more than 99.7% percent of teammates who are Liberian. In addition to our skilled tappers who harvest rubber, jobs include those in business, management, engineers, medical professionals, educators, and technicians.

Firestone Liberia is proud of its legacy of hiring, training, and promoting Liberian citizens to some of the highest levels of company leadership. Management is committed to ensuring that employment practices are consistent with, and often exceed, the laws of Liberia and the country’s 2015 Decent Work Act. In addition to competitive pay, Firestone teammates receive a variety of employment benefits, including free housing, free medical care, and free education for themselves and their dependents.

AGE REQUIREMENTS

Firestone Natural Rubber does not hire any teammate under the age of 18 and has a zero-tolerance policy on child labor. Our policy of hiring only teammates who are at least 18 years of age exceeds Liberian labor law requirements by two years. The company communicates its zero-tolerance policy to all teammates through supervisors, teammate meetings, posted signs, on radio, and through direct communication with elected union representatives.

Firestone conducts workshops for operating departments reinforcing its importance and ensuring full compliance with the company’s zero-tolerance policy. Teammates found violating this policy face disciplinary action which can result in termination of employment.
