Firestone Liberia Donates Rice For Quarantine Programme

HARBEL, LIBERIA (APRIL 9, 2020) – Firestone Liberia today announced the company has made a donation of critically needed rice to the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) in support of the country’s COVID-19 response efforts. The initial contribution of 100 bags of 50kg parboiled rice will be dedicated to the Ministry’s feeding of people held in quarantine.

“The Ministry of Health and the NPHIL are eternally grateful to Firestone Liberia for the continuous support to the Government of Liberia during this challenging time in the country,” said Doctor Wilhelmina Jallah, the Minister of Health. “The Ministry recalls the support of Firestone during the Ebola Crisis in 2014 and now with COVID-19. It is our hope that others will continue to emulate the good example of Firestone as being a true partner in ensuring the lives of Liberians and the responders are saved.”

This donation follows ongoing collaboration between the management team at Firestone Liberia and the Ministry of Health to share information, train personnel and prepare a zone at the company’s hospital to serve as a treatment and quarantine facility if required.

“In the fight against the COVID-19 global pandemic, we must each do our part to support each other. Firestone Liberia stands with the government and people of the country during this unprecedented time,” said Don Darden, general manager of Firestone Liberia. Darden went on to stress that “each and every one of us must do our part to reduce the spread of the virus through following the precautions issued by the Ministry of Health.”
