As a result of the civil war, the education system in Liberia is extremely behind. In 2010, the literacy rate of Liberia was estimated at 60.8% (64.80% for males and 56.8% for females). Although children are required by law to attend school until the age of 16, many of the schools suffered severe damage during the war years and don’t have adequate supplies.
At Firestone Natural Rubber Company, we believe in helping our employees learn and grow through quality education. Our 27-school system offers free education to nearly 15,000 students, including adult education program, and over the years we have invested millions in the education of the people of Liberia.
