HARBEL, Liberia, West Africa (March 24, 2006)- An education official of Grand Bassa Countyhas lauded Firestone Liberia for
itscontinuous contribution to the overall growth and improvement of the Liberian educational system.
The District Education Officer of Owensgrove, Mr. Edward Hadji said the education outreach program launched recently by the management of Firestone Liberia to help non Firestone schools with books and other educational materials needs commendation from every well meaning Liberian.
Making remarks during a program to mark the donation of assorted supplementary text books to the Owensgrove Elementary, Junior and Senior High School in the county, Mr. Hadji urged Firestone not to relent in its quest to reach out to non Firestone schools in the various communities so as to assist in the process of upgrading the educational system of the country.
He thanked Firestone for the donation and appealed to management for assistance and incentives for the instructional staff of the school. The District Education Officer further said that the books donated will indeed serve in the best interest of the children as future leaders of the country.
The Owensgrove Elementary, Junior and Senior High School currently has an enrollment of 200 (two hundred) students in both the morning and afternoon sections.
Earlier, Firestone’s Public Affairs Manager, Mr. G. Rufus Karmorh who made the donation on behalf of Management, stressed that the company attaches great importance to its educational outreach program which targets the future growth and development of the children of non Firestone employees.
Mr. Karmorh urged the students to take advantage of the opportunity by taking great interest in the reading of the books provided by Firestone, noting that “there are no short cuts to obtaining sound and quality education.”
According to the Public Affairs boss of Firestone Liberia, the donation was part of phase three of the company’s educational outreach program which has already benefited non Firestone schools in the Cotton Tree and Unification Town communities in Lower Margibi County.
The occasion was graced by the Public Relations Superintendent of Firestone, Mr. George B. Caine, the Principal, Mr. Benjamin Tarr and faculty members of the school, as well as some citizens of Owensgrove District.
